Biography

Her career began as a dancer in a Cleveland club, where a visiting contract performer told her to aim higher. She signed an exclusive deal with Vivid and became the label's first Asian contract performer, then moved to Hollywood to work under the name Blake Young. The early scenes were mostly girl/girl, with boy/girl alongside them, and the persona was still forming. The change to Kobe Tai came with a run of larger features, and the new name held for the rest of her career. Brooke Young, Carla Scott and Kobi Tai survive in older listings.

The screen register is narrow on paper and wide in practice: solo work, girl/girl, and boy/girl scenes running through oral, vaginal, anal and double penetration. What people remember is not the category but the energy. On one set she came off a bar stool in the middle of a scene and wrapped herself around her partner, and the director kept the take and placed it at the end of the film. She also worked outside the industry: a mainstream comedy, a skateboarding video, a late-night comedy segment, backing vocals on a rock album.
